Upstands – How to get it right…
When specifying and ordering your Sunsquare skylight you will be offered the option of being supplied with a Sunsquare Upstand.
We would normally recommend that this be used as this would ensure that you have all of the following features available:
- 5 Degree pitch to allow for water run-off
- Correct upstand width to allow the use of our unique Decorstop detail
- Factory assured U-Value of just 0.63W/m2K
- The option of adding factory fitted trickle ventilation
Of course, all of our skylights can be installed to a builder constructed upstand, either new or existing, if the following guidelines are followed:
- Make sure the upstand is square by measuring across the diagonally opposite corners. (See our Measurement Guide)
- Allow for the correct pitch, for all skylights other than Pyramid, Horizon & Floorlight, a minimum upstand pitch of 5 degrees is required. This means that for every 100mm of upstand span an increase in height of 9mm is required.
- The minimum height of the upstand is 150mm
- Ideally the upstand width should be 50mm, however, you can install to a greater width than this. If your upstand is wider than 50mm you will need to inform us of this. (We are able to make aesthetic adjustments to your skylight to conceal the upstand variation if this information is supplied on order.)
Finally, whether Sunsquare has supplied your upstand or if you have constructed it yourself, it is important you correctly instruct your roofer to dress the upstand.
To ensure the correct fitting of your Sunsquare skylight offer the following instruction:
- The roof membrane thickness cannot exceed 8mm to the top most 50mm of the upstand
- Make sure that the top face of the upstand is free from undulations that exceed 3mm
