    Advanced+ Glazing:
    What does it mean?

arrow Back to blog 16th September 2016

If you’ve spent any time on the Sunsquare website – or if you’re already one of our satisfied customers – you’ll know that we pride ourselves on remaining at the cutting edge of our industry. We’re constantly working to provide our customers with rooflights that benefit them in every way.

With that in mind, we were delighted to recently announce that Advanced+ Glazing is now one of the many glazing options available when ordering your rooflight through Sunsquare.

    So, what is Advanced+ Glazing?

For many people, tripling glazing is something desirable, but out of reach. It’s one of the more expensive options out there and is structurally doable in certain buildings.

So, if you want to enjoy some of the many perks of triple glazing, then Advanced+ Glazing is a great option.

    How does it actually work?

The technique used is actually fairly simple: Advanced+ makes use of a film in the airspace of one single insulated glass unit.

The technology means that Advanced+ Glazing panes are 33 per cent lighter than those that are triple glazed: ideal if you’re looking for a smaller structural option that offers some of the same performance options.

Because the panes weigh about the same as a normal double glazed model, Advanced+ Glazing can be configured to work effectively with our entire standard catalogue, including the SkyviewAero and Pyramid models.

The latest technology, in the finest traditions of Sunsquare. We can’t say fairer than that!

What are the benefits of the system?

Primarily, they’re thermal.  Advanced+ Glazing blocks 99 per cent of all UV rays from entering the home.  The benefits to this are numerous, as exposure to UV rays can be extremely damaging.

UV rays have been proven to have negative effects on health, capable of causing visible signs of aging and – far worse – skin cancer.  By investing in glass capable of blocking UV rays, you’re investing in your family’s health and wellbeing.

There are other benefits to protecting yourself from UV rays:

    • It’ll mean a cooler home.  UV rays – inevitably – heat things up.  In the summer months, especially, Advanced+ Glazing will really help lower the temperature.
    • It’ll help maintain your furniture.  Strangely, it isn’t only people UV light can damage: over time, sun rays can really start to wear on your home.  They can warp wood (because of the temperature), dry out leather and cause upholstery colours to fade.

Essentially, there are no downsides to blocking out UV rays and Advanced+ Glazing allows you to do so.

Plus, the U-value of the pane is an excellent 0.6 W/m2, so you can enjoy the benefits of great thermal performance.

    Are there any other benefits?

Yes! Advanced+ Glazing offers a unique multi-cavity design that provides both summer cooling and winter heating, giving you an incredibly comfortable home, all year round.

    What we say

Our sales director, Mark Lambert, said: “Our new Advanced+ Glazing option offers a lightweight alternative to traditional triple glazing which with our thermally efficient frame, and insulated upstands offers our customers the best range of thermally efficient skylights on the market”.
