    The benefits of natural light
    at home

If you’re a frequent reader of our blog, the chances are you’re already aware of the positive effect skylights can have on the amount of natural light allowed into the home. But why does this matter? Here, we’re going to take a look at the numerous benefits of natural light at home.

    It’s a money saver

According to government statistics, electricity is three or four times more expensive per KWh than other forms of energy.  Therefore, reducing the need of artificial lighting through natural light increase can be a real money saver.

The benefits of natural light at home offers a variety of health benefits

It’s been proven to enhance mood and energy through the release of endorphins in the body. Exposure to natural light’s also been shown to increase vitamin B and vitamin D levels in the body, as well as helping to improve:

    • The improvement of digestion and appetite stimulation
    • The improvement of circulation
    • A natural increase in both white and red blood cell counts
    • Improvement in quality of sleep
    • Natural treatment of skin diseases such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis

As well as many others. Put simply, the more natural light you’re exposed to, the healthier you’ll be!

It’ll improve your ability to work

Numerous studies have proven that working environments with an excess of natural light lead to increased productivity levels. Whilst we are not suggesting that you take your work home with you, the ability to be more alert and more efficient day-to-day is never a bad thing, especially if you’ve got little ones wandering around.

    It’ll make you feel happy

Multiple studies have confirmed that exposure to sunlight increases levels of serotonin – the body’s own natural anti-depressant – in the brain. So, if you expose yourself to high levels of natural light during the day, it’s practically impossible to not feel happier.

It’ll make your rooms nicer to spend time in

It’s no secret that people like to be in bright, naturally lit environments. You only need to see the floods of people at the beach or in pub gardens during the summer to get proof of this! If your rooms are flooded with natural light, both you will simply want to spend more time there: ideal if you’re looking for more reasons to get everyone in the same space, for a family meal or simply to spend more quality time together.

It’ll give you a cleaner house

Natural light is an extremely effective way of keeping your space clean: it’s virtually impossible for things like mildew and mould to grow in an environment that’s lit up in every corner!

It’ll make your rooms look nicer

In many ways, this is the best reason of all, which is why we saved it to last! When used effectively, natural light can do everything from creating the impression of more space to emphasising certain design features.  It’s an interior designer’s best friend.
