The testing facilities for the British Standards Industry (BSI) Kitemark has received £3 million worth of investment in state-of-the-art technology and facility upgrades, taking the globally-recognised Kitemark firmly into the 21st Century and beyond.
Since 1954, the BSI’s Kitemark House has put thousands of products through its paces, testing them for safety and performance to the highest standards. Those that meet the stringent pass marks achieve the BSI Kitemark, which remains one of the most recognised consumer quality marks in the country.
Sunsquare has seen its weather facing product range undergo careful examination at the BSI labs for weather tightness, wind loading and air permeability. Subsequently, the Bury St Edmunds-based business achieved standards never seen before in the UK skylight industry, setting a new benchmark for competitors to follow across the globe.
BSI’s continued commitment to the future of the Kitemark and recognising the highest standards of product quality for consumers has seen an investment in new advanced testing facilities at its Hemel Hempstead headquarters.
Changes to standards and innovation in product design mean that the BSI’s labs have been developed to include new and improved tests to enable manufacturers to bring ground-breaking products to market as quickly as possible.
Maureen Sumner Smith, UK managing director, BSI, said: “The majority of this multi-million-pound investment has centred on installing state-of-the-art technology and improving our facilities to allow customers to see for themselves the rigorous testing their products go through.
“The future of the BSI Kitemark is an exciting one. It has a long established history of reassuring customers that products or services can be trusted.”
Justin Seldis, managing director, Sunsquare, said: “The BSI Kitemark is suitable for small self-build clients to large commercial projects. All of our customers now know that every Sunsquare skylight they buy is entirely fit for purpose; enabling us to trade throughout the world with this genuine mark of quality.
“We are delighted to hear that the BSI is continuing to invest in its state-of-the-art testing labs, maintaining its long-established reputation of reassuring customers that products or services can be trusted.
