Whether it’s large expansive areas of heavy glass or small spaces that could be transformed with natural light, here at Sunsquare we like to rise to a challenge no matter how tricky the design is. Not only were we up against an unusual design for this particular installation, but we also had to work very carefully due to the tight space. As possibly the only company in the skylight industry to install our own designs, we are in the best position to survey the site and ensure that the dreams of our clients and architects are achievable in both design and fitting.
In this case, we were asked to design a rooflight that would fit in a particularly awkward spot in the heart of Kensington, on a delightful Victorian terrace. Not only did the client want a large area glazed, it needed to have ventilation and open in a particular way (like a book). This opening style was required for the area that the skylight was being fitted in, and is not our usual flush fit, so was a highly bespoke design. Due to the length and orientation of the glass, the opening pane needed to open from the outside edge of the skylight and the hinges were on the internal side.
The skylight sits in a hard to access part of the property and had to be assembled on site after lifting it piece by piece due to the very tight area it was being fitted in, and as a result of the unique opening mechanism.
Needless to say, both the design and installation were achieved as requested. Light and ventilation are now a feature of what was a very dark and unusable space, which is soon to be transformed into a wonderful dining space for the homeowners.
One of the many advantages of choosing the unique services at Sunsquare is that whatever the challenge, we will be able to find you the solution that ensures the highest quality skylight, with maximum safety, and of course a sleek and timeless design.
